In this class you’ll learn the styles of different joints and different ways to make them. In fine furniture building knowing how to make solid Mortise and Tenon joints is very important and this class will get you started. We’ll be building a frame. Very similar to what’s used in pictures, or doors on cupboards. Another fun and relaxing class but one essential to growing your skills. A good course to take before the intermediate and advanced courses.

In the introductory to hand cut dove tail class you’ll learn to cut your own dovetails! Build the skill of hand joinery to be able to improve your woodworking skills and broaden your ability to build many other projects. We supply all the tools and materials and even lunch and refreshments! We only use some of the finest hand tools to teach you layout, sawing, understanding why you’d choose dovetails, and how they can improve your projects. You’ll cut your own dovetails in this class and learn what you’ll need to take your newly acquired skills to the next level.

In the serving tray class you’ll be using the router table to make dado joints, the miter saw to cut 45” sides, a shooting plane to get them spot on, a band saw to shape, a drill press to cut the handle and a bit of sanding to get everything smooth. It’s a beautiful piece and one that will get attention for years to come. We’ll be building it out of cherry and curly maple.

In this three hour class you’ll make your own wooden coasters! Learn some basic woodworking skills to get you started and build beautiful coasters for yourself or someone as a gift! We’ll pick through different woods, learn how to use a table saw, a band saw, routers, sanders and applying a beautiful finish. Both demonstrations and hands on activities in this course and it’s considered a beginning class.

Using a hand plane in furniture building is a critical skill. Learning what different planes do, how to set them up, and maximize their use will be covered in this class. Well be building a Japanese style tool chest out of cherry wood using only hand planes a hand saw and a hammer. These are cool boxes with tons of different uses. You’ll leave the class with the desire to spend hours using a hand plane on whatever you can find.

What to expect: First we’ll look at the different live edge pieces and determine your projects goals. Next we’ll use hand saws to cut the width. We’ll then use hand chisels to take off the bark. We’ll have a choice of hand planes or the sanders next. Other skills will involve measuring and drilling. You’ll leave with a beautiful working finished bench!
