• De-mystify this joint that’s been used for centuries. Learn to saw properly, how to use hand tools to get those crisp edges we all drool over when we see them. We’ll discuss how to do layouts, which steps are most critically and give you some great little hints to make your joints strong first of all, then pretty. It’s a very fun, challenging and relaxing class. We’ve even got a list of what we consider are the bare essentials for hand joinery.
  • What to expect: The first part we discuss and show the 12 different types of wood that are available. We then show how to use a table saw correctly and safely. We go right into glue up. The second half we show you how to use a planer and belt sander. We then pick an edging style and show you how to use a router table. We then show you how to use an orbital sander. Finally, we oil up the board to protect and bring out the natural grain. Lastly bring home your new custom cutting board!

We do a lot of demonstration how to cut miters properly, how to use a shooting plane, how to cut splines to add strength to your miters, how to make liners, how to maintain grain direction in a box, and final finish and sanding. This class is intended as a hands on demonstration. The boxes we build will be sent to Lemons Of Love. They will donate the boxes to cancer survivors as a a keepsake box. You will get the knowledge on how to build them, get to have a hands on experience, and you’ll leave with enough walnut to build your own.
